New writing work (in Spanish) for Gourmets, featuring a wine project that was born out of necessity: what to do with the 2020 grape harvest, when wineries weren’t buying small producers’ fruit because of the pandemic? Small grape growers joined forces and the outcome couldn’t be better. The story is included in the October issue, out now.

New work for Whetstone magazine, a long form feature on roxóns, a pork meat dish from northern Spain that is very attached to peasant culture and rural seasonal celebrations.
This mag is a favourite indie publication. With a focus on championing food to expand human empathy and challenging mainstream trends, they publish unique food stories from around the world. It is with great joy that I share these news: Urban Farmers, the book (photographed by Valery Rizzo, published by Gestalten, written by yours truly) will be out in French next month! The book was originally published in English and has also been translated to German. The French edition is available for pre-order now.
Divided in case studies, profiles, features and “activities at home” , the book, which also includes four guest essays, offers a global overview of urban agriculture across the world. From a scholar that quit academia to fight to save Mexico City’s chinampas to a passionate activist tackling food insecurity by teaching urban farming skills in Nairobi; Urban Farmers is an invitation to roll up the sleeves, start digging and ultimately grow not only vegetables but strong communities.

It’s been a treat to work on this story (writing & photography) featuring some of Asturias’s most brilliant young cheesemakers. I was lucky to get that sunshine in winter, when I photographed the story. The work appears in the Travel Issue (summer 2021) of US magazine Culture Cheese.

It is with great joy that I share these news: Urban Farmers, the book in which photographer and co-editor Valery Rizzo, the Gestalten team and yours truly have been working on for months will be out in Europe soon (April 29th)!

Writing this book has been a journey and I feel truly grateful for everything that I have learnt along the process. With special thanks to those busy farmers, activists, food justice advocates and all the others who made time for our interviews, the book couldn’t have happened without them. It does take a village!

New writing work (in Spanish) for Gourmets, an interview with renowned London chef Skye Gyngell of Spring restaurant and biodynamic farmer Jane Scotter of Fern Verrow farm. The interview focuses on how they are joining forces to reduce food waste, both on the farm and at the restaurant.

New work for Saveur magazine, featuring my grandmother’s mojo picón recipe, which appears in The Saveur 100 list. This was shot at my grandma’s on Tenerife, during lockdown. It’s very moving for me to see her recipe on the list.

For the current issue, I wrote a long form feature on Victoria Torres, a fifth generation winemaker from La Palma, Canary Islands, who makes excellent wines despite all the challenges, including climate change.

New photo work for American Express’ Shop Small magazine, in partnership with Courier. The story features a small yet successful independent pub in Brighton named The Independent. The winter edition is out now and the story it’s on the cover of the Brighton edition.

New story (writing + photography) for Iberia Excelente (business class in-flight magazine), a road trip across one of Spain’s most exciting wine regions, Ribeira Sacra. The story focuses on a brilliant host, Francisco Almuíña, who overcame his traumatic vision loss after a workplace accident and now shows visitors the land of his childhood through the senses, sharing all his knowledge on the nature, traditions, vineyards and local foods of the area. The story also focuses on Pedro Rodríguez, of Guímaro winery, a third-generation winemaker and his terroir-driven wines.

New writing work for Gourmets, an interview with renowned Spanish chef Nieves Barragán. She is a star chef in the London food scene, having made the tapas culture approachable for Londoners from Barrafina first, and now from her own restaurant, Sabor. The interview also includes a couple of my photos. The opening portrait and food shots are by photographer Chris Terry.
